Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed missile attacks throughout the Middle East in response for a significant and continuing offensive against it by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity close to the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any destruction is not yet known and the American officials has yet to issue a statement.

Missile Defenses Activated

Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - stated they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their air space.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That initial attack - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck sites associated with the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump calling on the Iranian people to rise up against the government.

Regional Fallout

In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces said it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE stated that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses responded to the projectiles with notable success and destroyed a series of missiles," it added.

Officials reported missile fragments fell on a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some material damage and killing a civilian.

The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
