Shock as Beloved South African DJ Shot Dead in the Heart of Johannesburg.
A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the metropolis of Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country battling entrenched crime.
Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the central business district on Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities reported the forty-year-old entertainer was approached by three suspects, one of whom began shooting at him before fleeing on foot.
The motive behind the shooting has not been established and no one has been arrested have taken place, as per the official statement.
The Fatal Incident
Police said that Stock was attacked as he was leaving a building in the vicinity of the Carlton Centre.
He had been present for hours at the building managing the setup of safety equipment, which had been illegally inhabited by unknown people, it was reported.
"It is alleged the man was approached by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they shot at him before fleeing the scene on foot," a police statement said.
Security camera video reportedly depicted a man with dreadlocks and wearing what resembled a protective services outfit shooting on Stock before running away.
The DJ attempted to flee after he was shot but fell down a short distance away.
Police added that Stock had an gun that was not fired and nothing was taken during the assault.
Crucial forensic evidence, like bullet casings, were recovered from the crime scene.
Call for Public Assistance
Police have appealed anyone who saw the event who may have seen the suspects to come forward.
"Our information indicates they walked a long distance after the attack, and police have been attempting to locate them to find their whereabouts," added an official.
Outpouring of Grief
His sister, Nicole Stock, expressed the relatives are devastated to process his death.
"I am in shock. I cannot express the pain," she stated.
"It is clear he was a voice for many people. He addressed issues courageously about issues not many people were willing to speak about. This is a tremendous loss."
She appealed to the community to not sharing disturbing footage from the scene, explaining this was an incredibly difficult time, particularly for Stock's young family.

Stock was the star of Ngicel' iVisa, a television program that aired on a popular local broadcasting platform.
Apart from his work in broadcasting, Stock was active in various business ventures, including security provision, offering elite guarding services and managing safety for high-profile events across South Africa.
He was also reportedly involved in real estate operations and was involved in tenant removals.

His killing has sent the nation reeling and prompted an outpouring of tributes from his audience, the government and various organizations.
A government minister remarked he was outraged and heartbroken by Stock's untimely death.
"He spoke his truth without fear or favour. He even challenged me and my decisions as a minister. He was a true embodiment of who we ought to be," the minister added.
A political leader stated the "brazen murder of DJ Warras in broad daylight is a shock for all South Africans".
A media executive expressed that "DJ Warras was more than just a face of a reality series. He was a talented storyteller, a passionate music lover and a kind-hearted individual who brought excitement and dynamism to every appearance. His commitment to his craft left an lasting impression."
In a statement, the channel he worked for affirmed Stock was known for his magnetism, kindness and quick humor, adding that his memory "will be remembered".
Context of Crime
South Africa, the region's leading economy, has one of the world's highest murder rates, exacerbated by theft-related violence and syndicate wars, with some 63 people murdered daily between April and September, based on government figures.
