Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was natural for concerns to be raised about his future following another convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in 12 matches, marking the team's poorest streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a tough night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got plenty of backing from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It's important to change things and get a victory obviously but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it is normal that people question you.”
He added, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “During our regular discussions I perceive the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Failings and Player Response
Slot highlighted recurring shortcomings from his team in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a spell such as this with outcomes this poor.”
Jones stated, “However we still have that badge on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we will always battle.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
