The English golfer Clinches the Abu Dhabi Title in Dramatic Play-Off Battle Versus Fellow Englishman Fleetwood
The 30-year-old golfer demonstrated exceptional nerve to secure the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship on the final day, beating Tommy Fleetwood in a tense playoff after a rollercoaster last day of play.
Rai sank a crucial birdie from around eight feet to seal the win, echoing his only previous Rolex Series success at the Scottish Open in 2020, which was also a play-off victory against the same opponent.
Final Round Excitement
The champion entered the final round with a one-shot advantage over fellow Englishman Tommy Fleetwood and Danish golfer Højgaard. He ended up with a total score of twenty-under after a up-and-down, 67 final round that featured seven birdies and two bogeys.
The challenger edged a stroke ahead with the 16th and 17th to play after a birdie on the 16th, but Rai pulled level again on the seventeenth and then failed to convert a 10-foot birdie attempt to win outright on the last hole.
Play-Off Decider
This led to a playoff at Yas Links where the eventual winner triumphed to take the title and $1.5 million (ÂŁ1.13m) in winnings.

Notable Contenders
The Northern Irish star left himself just too much to make up, coming up one shot behind in a tie for third with the Dane, after a stunning 10-under closing round of 62. It was McIlroy’s best-ever round on the European Tour, including eight birdies and an eagle.
Højgaard fired six birdies of his as well, but his chances of topping the leaderboard were dented by a bogey on the 12th. English golfer Mansell hit an excellent last round seven-under to finish in a tie for fifth place with Australia’s Hillier.
