The network's Top New Show of 2025 Secures a Significant Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.
In October of last year, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the channel unveiled a fresh animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. At a time often characterized by cynicism, this show's earnestness struck a chord and propelled it a breakout hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."
A President's Endorsement
Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and championed its distinctly quirky appeal.
"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about watching this endearing family go about their daily lives.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to help comedy break out of its long-running cynical streak. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
Future Seasons
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well help usher in that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to bask in the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
