The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
